Leerdoelen
Understanding and application of methods used in the analysis of microarray data.
Inhoud
In the first part the student is introduced to techniques for measuring gene expression on a genome-wide scale using microarrays. Methods used for the analysis of microarray data (statistics, pre-processing, normalisation, clustering, classification, machine learning, biological pathways/networks) are explained in detail.
In the second part this knowledge will be applied in a series of computer practicals on real microarray datasets. For the practicals we will use the open-source statistical programming environment R/Bioconductor.
In the third part the student will reanalyse a challenging microarray experiment from a high-impact journal.
Aanbevolen voorkennis
Programming (for example, Matlab, R), basic knowledge of biology.
