Leerdoelen
To be able to understand and apply advanced neurophysiological methods and interpret the results of scientific papers employing these methods.
Inhoud
This course involves an in-depth discussion of neurophysiological methods that are commonly applied within the cognitive neurosciences. Experienced researchers from the major participating groups of the master program will lecture and organize workshops providing hands-on experience with different techniques. In addition, a computer practical will cover basic signal analysis using Matlab.
Because the course will not only stress advantages of the techniques but also common pitfalls, the student will be able to evaluate the results of cognitive neuroscience studies incorporating these methods.
Among the methods discussed are:
- Cell recording techniques in animals (both single cell and multi-unit)
- EEG and ERP techniques in humans
- Physiological recording techniques (heart rate, respiration, etc)
- Transcranial magnetic stimulation
