The students are introduced to entrepreneurship as an
academic discipline and as a
practice from
multi-disciplinary perspective. Students will gain insight in different forms of entrepreneurship:
start-up entrepreneurship,
social entrepreneurship and
corporate entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship
theories and their relevance and
applicability for the practice of entrepreneurship will be discussed.
Inhoud
Entrepreneurship is the process of discovering, evaluating and exploiting
opportunities for new,
innovative products and services around which a business is created, in other words the process of creating and growing new businesses and firms. Entrepreneurship is discussed as
universal phenomena which is independent of geography or industry. The Entrepreneur is the one who drives this process. Entrepreneurship is an
academic discipline as well as a
practice. Entrepreneurship complements business studies disciplines like Management, Organization and Strategy, Marketing and Information Management in that it deals with startups and young (entrepreneurial) firms whereas the former are mainly concerned with large established firms. The course discusses
International Entrepreneurship - the crossroad between International Business and Entrepreneurship. Among the topics to be discussed in the lectures are:
theory of entrepreneurship,
networks in entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship and
globalization,
opportunity recognition, cases in entrepreneurship,
venture capital - financing entrepreneurial ventures, ,corporate entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship, In addition to regular lectures a guest presentation by entrepreneurs will be given.
During the course, students-teams will work with the Amsterdam Center for Entrepreneurship at Science Park (
ace@sciencepark.nl), on developing business cases and business plans for students based ventures.
