The
Undergraduate certificate programme in Humanities (for exchange students) is a non-degree programme for exchange students who have at least one year of academic background in the humanities. Students can orientate themselves across the boundaries of disciplines and specialities or choose to deepen their knowledge of a specific area. The courses offered in the framework of the
Undergraduate certificate programme in
Humanities (UCP Humanities) are organised in the following thematic clusters:
- Cluster Literature and language
- Cluster History, archeology and religion
- Cluster European and american studies
- Cluster Philosophy and discourse
- Cluster Contemporary Dutch studies
- Cluster Arts and media studies
- Cluster Modern European Languages;
courses taught in target language
- Cluster Nederlandse taal, cultuur en geschiedenis;
courses taught in Dutch
These courses cover the wide range of topics that belong to the field of the humanities and focus on the faculty’s strong points in research and education.
Courses are offered at levels 1-4 with level 4 being graduate level courses. What level students can register for depends on the their academic background and their level of English/ Dutch. Please see the Humanities' International Office website
http://www.studeren.uva.nl/exchange_humanities for information on how to determine your level.
For information on graduate courses taught in English please see the information in section
'Other course options'.
Courses in the cluster Nederlandse taal, cultuur en geschiedenis are taught in Dutch, naturally students who choose courses of this stream need to be fluent in Dutch.
Please note that, unfortunately, application for a course does not guarantee placement; courses may be cancelled or there may be more qualified applicants for the available places. For that reason, students applying for courses should realize that it might not be possible to take a full workload in their area of study (and at the appropriate level). Flexibility and a willingness to take courses outside of students' field of study is therefore important!
