Students can choose a specialisation with the master programme in Musicology (60 EC) by choosing courses in Western music (contemporary and/or historical), World music, Jazz, Intercultural musicology or music theory. Students should contact the programme director (W. van der Meer, meer@uva.nl) to discuss a suitable study programme and specialisation. Please note that although almost all combinations of courses are possible students will have to fulfil the entry requirements of the specific courses.

The programme consists of three master courses of 10 credits each, one elective course of 10 credits and a master thesis of 20 credits.

• Reading Black Music. Key texts on African-American music (10 EC) + Is Jazz America's Classical Music? Ken Burns' 19-hour documentary on the history of jazz (5 EC)

Electives:

• Performance and Theatre Analysis. Analysing Intercultural Performance (10 EC)
• Internship (10 EC)
