Introduction
Moving images are part of our most precious, but also most fleeting and fragile cultural heritage. They capture time and place, memory and history, as well as carrying a myriad of other important data. How does one preserve this audiovisual material for future generations and how does one present it today, as a source of information, culture and entertainment, to a general or specialized audience?
The MA programme Preservation and Presentation of the Moving Image addresses these questions in theory and practice. The programme will teach you the knowledge and skills necessary to archive audiovisual material and also to present such work to a public. What you learn in the first year will be put into practice during a period of work placement in the second year. The specific combination of archiving and programming skills from an in-depth theoretical and practice-based perspective makes this MA course unique in Europe. Given the expanding market of image-based culture, education and entertainment, such a course also offers excellent career opportunities at various institutions, such as archives, museums, film houses and festivals.
