The program follows the ECTS, the European Credit Transfer System. 60 ECTS credits per year is considered to be a normal course load. This is equivalent to about 42 hours (28 hours per EC) per week and includes lectures, reading, assignments, library queries, and discussions. An academic year is divided in two semesters. Each semester divided in three periods of respectively 8, 8, and 4 weeks (periods 1a, 1b, 1c/2a, 2b, 2c). The Description of and Code of Practice on Assessment for a degree course (in Dutch: Onderwijs- en Examenregeling - OER), ratified by the dean of the faculty, contains the official description of degree course. The student handbook and the OER are the documents by which students are granted their rights and duties. This study guide contains all kind of information regarding programmes and teaching matters, part of it being derived from the OER. Although this study guide has been compiled with great care no rights can be derived from it. This guide does not contain timetables or the data for tests.
