The programme

Admission requirements

The Master of Science programme in Business Economics is taught entirely in English. It offers three specializations, each with a clear professional profile:

  1. Finance
  2. Organization Economics
  3. Real Estate Finance

Admission requirements specializations Finance and Real Estate Finance
Students who have completed one of the following tracks of the Bachelor's in Economics and Business at the University of Amsterdam are admitted unconditionally to the Finance or Real Estate Finance specializations of the master's programme in Business Economics:

  • Specialization Business Economics - Finance track
  • Specialization Business Economics - minortrack Finance
  • Specialization Economics - International Economics and Finance track

Admission requirements for other applicants
Applicants are expected to hold a good degree in Business economics or an economics-related bachelor's degree, specialization Finance. Knowledge of corporate finance and portfolio theory at the undergraduate level is required, as well as a good working knowledge of the English language.

Admission requirements specialization Organization Economics
Students who have completed one of the following tracks of the Bachelor's in Economics and Business at the University of Amsterdam are admitted unconditionally to the specialization Organization Economics of the master's programme in Business Economics:

  • Specialization Business Economics - Organization Economics track
  • Specialization Business Economics track - minortrack Organization Economics

Admission requirements for other applicants
Applicants are expected to hold a good degree in Business economics or an economics related bachelor's degree, specialization Organization economics. Knowledge of organizational economics at the undergraduate level is required, as well as a good working knowledge of the English language.

Bachelor-before-Master rule
From 1 September 2009 onwards, the Bachelor-before-Master rule applies in line with the University's policy. This means that students who are registered as a Bachelor's student have to successfully complete their Bachelor's programme before they can register as a Master's student and be admitted to participate in Master's courses and take examinations for these courses. With regard to students taking a pre-Master's programme, they first have to successfully complete their pre-Master's programme before they can take any Master's course.

While awaiting the formal approval of the Onderwijs- en Examenregeling (OER) by the Dean, all programme schedules and course descriptions are published under provision.
